Inter ‘must reach agreement with Alexis Sanchez on £500k-a-week wages’ before opening transfer talks with Man Utd

INTER MILAN will hold talks with Alexis Sanchez in the hope of agreeing on a wage packet before sealing a permanent switch from Manchester United, according to reports.

The Chilean, who is on an incredible £500,000-a-week at Old Trafford, has spent the season on loan with the Italian side.

Inter are forking out £4.5million of his £18.2m annual salary with United stumping up the rest of the cost.

Sanchez, 31, has scored three times and assisted eight in an injury-hit campaign that has limited him to just nine Serie A starts.

But Antonio Conte’s side still want to pursue a permanent move and hopes to keep him as part of his plans for next season.

According to Sky Sports Italia, that will only happen if Sanchez agrees to significantly lower his wage packet.

The club will hold talks with the forward and will propose a deal that would see his wages more than halved to around £200,000-a-week.

If Sanchez agrees, Inter will then open talks with United over a potential transfer fee.

United are keen to offload Sanchez and get his wages off their books with two years remaining on his deal.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have told Inter they will not let him join on loan for another year and would prefer to find a buyer.

That means he won’t be able to play for Inter in the rest of the Europa League campaign when it gets back underway on August 5.

Despite his slow start to life in Italy due to an ankle injury, Sanchez is starting to find his feet having picked up six assists in his last seven matches.

Conte said of the winger earlier this month: “We knew very well that Sanchez had not been very good for two years at Manchester United, he was a little lost.

“He came here and got himself involved, he had bad luck as he injured his ankle but luckily there was Lautaro [Martinez] and [Romelu] Lukaku.

“He is now well, he is taking more and more control and I am starting to see the real Sanchez.

“He must continue like this, then we will see what the future holds. Today we must focus on the present and do our best.”
