Lukaku scored 64 goals in 95 appearances for Inter from 2019 to 2021, helping them reach the Europa League final before winning a first title in 11 years in 2021.

He wore the No 9 shirt during those seasons but will wear No 90 in 2022-23.

Lukaku struggled in his year at Stamford Bridge, scoring just eight Premier League goals and failing to nail down a regular starting place despite a £97.5m move.

He angered the Blues’ fanbase after giving an interview last December where he said he wanted to return.

And Lukaku revealed today that he has been in contact with Inter coach Simone Inzaghi “all season”.

Lukaku will wear No 90 in his second spell at the club

“We were in contact over the course of the season.

“I think he’s doing a great job here. I want to help the team and do well for this club.

“The team played really well last season, on another level.

“It’s a shame they didn’t win the title but they won two important trophies. Lots of players improved loads, we need to keep it up.

“It’s up to us to make it tough for our rivals. We need to prepare well for the new season because we want to keep doing what we’ve been doing.”
