Jack Grealish going all out to win historic Treble in first season with Man City… but know he must improve

JACK GREALISH is convinced he can finish his first season at Manchester City a Treble winner.

But he is still not satisfied with his own performances after making a British-record £100million summer move from Aston Villa.

Grealish thinks City winning the Treble is possible

Grealish’s Treble hopes could put him on a collision course with boss Pep Guardiola, who has repeatedly played down City’s chances of landing the lot.

Yet Grealish thinks otherwise — and sees no reason why the Premier League title, Champions League and FA Cup should not end up in the Etihad trophy cabinet in May.

The England ace insisted: “I think so, although I obviously don’t want to put too much pressure on the team.

“We have so much talent here and so many good players. I really think we could go all the way in a few competitions this year.

“That is what I have come here for, to win trophies, so hopefully come the end of the season I will have a few medals around my neck.”

Guardiola will certainly be less than impressed at his comments, two years after giving Alex Zinchenko a slap on the wrist when the left-back tipped City for a clean sweep.

West Ham ended hopes of a fifth successive Carabao Cup — and an awesome foursome — when they KO’d City on penalties in October.

Yet Guardiola’s men are favourites in the three remaining competitions.

They  top the Prem table, face rank outsiders Sporting Lisbon in the last 16 of the Champions League and open their FA Cup campaign at League Two Swindon next month.

Winning those would certainly give Grealish a memorable debut year — although he admits the pressure is on, as part of such an all-star cast.

That includes upping his goals return, after three so far, and improving on the two assists he has made in his first four months at City.

Grealish, 26, added: “At the end of the day people look at such things as how many goal involvements us attackers have. I  felt like when I came here from Villa I looked at my goals and assists from last season.

Grealish has three goals across all competitions this season

“So I obviously thought going to City, the best club in England, the best players, I’m going to go there and get 20 or 30 goal involvements.

“But it ain’t been the case at all — I’ve actually struggled with my goals and assists.

“Especially the price-tag on my head, as soon as you don’t get those goals and assists for a while people start talking and doubting you.

“That is what I have felt like recently but those two are the ones I am trying to work on the most.

“That’s where you need to trust in my own ability and take it from there.”

Grealish opened his scoring account in the second game of the season against Norwich but failed to hit the net in his next ten league games for the club.

Grealish was practicing headers before the Leeds thrashing and ended up on the scoresheet

He finally added to his Prem tally during City’s thumping 7-0 win over Leeds on Tuesday — netting his first-ever header in the league.

And he will be hoping to be  on target again when Guardiola’s table-toppers  travel to Newcastle today.

The Brummie icon continued: “I was actually doing it the day before in training — some crossing and finishing, mostly headers.

“I actually surprised myself — I scored a few.

“I missed one against Watford a few weeks back. To get on the scoresheet and do it with a header, which I don’t get a lot of, is perfect.”

Grealish this week hailed  Guardiola and stated how crucial he is to the star-studded squad.

Grealish’s stats this term

He said: “The amount of games he has won for us this season from his tactics is just unbelievable.

“The craziest thing  he does is that every game is a different gameplan.

“I know you have a lot of managers out there that like to stick with the same gameplan no matter what team they are playing but he is the complete opposite.”
