James Garner one of five Man Utd U23 stars to be sent out on loan transfer with club braced for mass exodus

MANCHESTER UNITED starlet James Garner is to become the latest young Red Devil to head out on loan, according to reports.

The 19-year-old had been out in Cologne with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Co, as they aimed to win the Europa League.

Garner has been sporadically involved with United’s first-team

But with United now back in the UK after crashing out at the hands of Sevilla, Garner is expected to seal a deal in the coming days.

And according to the MEN, Garner’s representatives are now prioritising securing a one-year loan deal for their highly-rated client.

Garner made six first-team appearances for the Red Devils in the 2019-20 season, but didn’t make a Premier League matchday squad after December.

And speaking earlier in the season, head of first-team development Nicky Butt spoke of the importance of getting “men’s football” as the midfielder looks to progress.

He told the MEN: “I’d want to go and play men’s football as well.

“Because you do come to a point in the reserves where you bypass that and it does become too easy for you, and it becomes a bit lethargic and you also want to push the younger ones up.

“But then also the flip-side of it is you don’t want to dive into the wrong loan spell or wrong club and end up thinking, ‘I’ve made a complete error here, I’m going to lose six months, I’m going to lose a year of my football, I’m at the wrong club’. So you’ve got to be very careful.”

Tahith Chong sealed his loan switch to Werder Bremen this week, while fellow United youngster Aliou Traore has moved to Ligue 2 side Caen.

Dylan Levitt, Ethan Galbraith and Dishon Bernard, who all made their first-team debuts against Astana back in November, are also expecting loan moves.

And goalkeeper Matej Kovar could also get a taste of proper action elsewhere.

As for Angel Gomes, however, he elected to leave Old Trafford, rejecting the offer of a new contract in order to seal a permanent move to Lille in Ligue 1.
