LIVERPOOL legend Jamie Carragher has named his Premier League team of the season so far, which unsurprisingly included the whole of the Reds back four.

With the season currently on hold, Carragher has drafted the team that have impressed him the most.

Jamie Carragher’s team of the season included seven Liverpool players.

Goalkeeper

Burnley’s Nick Pope has 11 clean sheets this season, a league best, but Carragher decided to go with Sheffield United shot-stopper Dean Henderson.

Henderson, who is on loan from Manchester United, has made a big impression at Bramall Lane and was set to to be included in the England squad for this month’s friendlies that were cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Defence

It was an easy choice for Carragher when it came to the defence, with all four Liverpool defenders included.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been in outstanding form for Jurgen Klopp’s side, with 12 assists to his name.

Only Kevin de Bruyne has more assists than the right-back this season.

The centre-back pairing of Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk has helped Liverpool on their way to the top of the Premier League.

Van Dijk has progressed into one of the world’s best defenders and was only beaten by Lionel Messi to the Ballon d’Or award.

Andy Robertson completes the defence with the former Hull left-back looking a bargain at £8million.

Midfield

Carragher decided to go with a midfield three which included Manchester City star man Kevin de Bruyne.

The Belgian midfielder has continued to shine for Pep Guardiola’s side, with 16 assists and eight goals to his name in the league.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was the next included in the three-man midfield.

Henderson has been tipped to win the Premier League player of the season and has played a pivotal role in his side’s rise to the top.

Despite being in the relegation zone, Aston Villa main man Jack Grealish completes Carragher’s midfield.

Grealish has been a shining light in a tough season for Dean Smith’s side and has contributed seven goals and six assists.

Attack

Liverpool sit 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League thanks to major contributions from their front three but only two get into Carragher’s team of the season.

Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane were chosen alongside Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

Salah and Mane have scored 30 out of Liverpool’s 66 goals between them and have been in outstanding form for Klopp’s side.

Although him and his teammates sit way below Liverpool, Aguero has continued to impress, scoring 16 times in the league this season.

There were plenty of candidates that could’ve been included in Carragher’s team of the season with Jamie Vardy, the Premier League’s top scorer, unfortunate to miss out.

Another forward unlucky to miss out was Southampton’s Danny Ings, who has lifted his side away from relegation worries with 15 goals.

Roberto Firmino, Sheffield United’s John Lundstram and Wolves pair Raul Jimenez and Diego Jota all missed out despite their impressive performances this season.
