Jesse Lingard scores first goal in TEN months as he silences Man Utd critics just minutes into Astana clash

JESSE LINGARD has ended his 28 game goal drought after giving Manchester United the lead against Astana.

The 26-year-old took aim with his right foot from just outside of the box, and fired home to give the Red Devils the lead in the tenth minute.

United’s captain on the night finally ended his 28 game goal drought

The strike saw Lingard score his first goal since the 3-1 FA Cup win over Arsenal on January 25.

Lingard divides opinion amongst United fans, and the decision to make him captain for tonight’s game drew the ire of some supporters.

But many were eating their words after United’s number 14 fired their young side into the lead.

One wrote: “Lingard back scoring, Top 4, FA cup, Carabao Cup & Europa league here we come.”

And another said: “December just around the corner and Messi Lingard is back.”

While one joked: “looking forward to him lifting the champions league trophy in the next coming years.”

And a delighted supporter gushed: “Lovely, welcome back Capt Jesse. Young ‘uns playing well”.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the gamble of naming an incredibly youthful side.

Having already qualified for the round of 32, the Norwegian named a starting XI with an outfield average age of just 20.2.

But skipper-on-the-night Lingard gave them the perfect start.

Victory against Astana will see United win the group with a game to spare.
