Jonny Evans reveals his kids can’t believe he played for Man Utd after second debut struggles at Arsenal

Former Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has opened up about his kids' disbelief at his multiple stints at the club. Evans recently returned to Old Trafford on a one-year deal, eight years after leaving the Red Devils. The 35-year-old, who made 198 appearances for United, admitted that his three children find it difficult to believe that he played for the prestigious club. However, he is excited for them to witness him in action at Old Trafford.

Unbelievable kids

Evans shared that his children, Lottie (9), Heidi (6), and Eli (3), struggle to accept that he was a Manchester United player. While they know about his connection to the club, they have a hard time believing it. Nevertheless, the defender expressed his joy at the opportunity for his kids to watch him play in person. Having been born during his last season at United, his eldest child holds an especially sentimental connection to the club. Evans considers it a privilege to be able to bring his kids to Old Trafford.

A difficult return

Unfortunately, Evans' return to Manchester United did not go as planned. In his second debut against Arsenal, the Northern Ireland international suffered a nightmare performance. He deflected a shot from Declan Rice into his own net during stoppage time, giving the Gunners the lead. Later, he played Gabriel Jesus onside, allowing the Brazilian to score Arsenal's third goal and seal their victory. Fans were highly critical of Evans' performance following the match.

A journeyman career

After leaving Manchester United in 2015, Evans went on to play for West Brom before making a switch to Leicester three years later. It was at Leicester that he achieved success, winning the FA Cup in 2021. Despite his ups and downs, Evans remains grateful for the opportunity to return to his former club and play at Old Trafford once again.
