Jose Mourinho plans transfer raid on Man Utd for Alex Telles as he targets left-back to stand in for injured Spinazzola

MANCHESTER UNITED may soon receive a call from former boss Jose Mourinho as the Roma coach prepares a bid for Alex Telles.

Reports in Italy suggest the left-back is on the Giallorossi’s radar for a summer move.

Alex Telles was a peripheral figure in his first year at Manchester United

Roma are seeking a new left-back following Leonardo Spinazzola’s Achilles injury.

The Italy star, named in the Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament, is out for around six months after suffering the major blow against Belgium.

According to CalcioMercato, 28-year-old Telles is among the options for Mourinho as his new club scour the market for replacements.

It is said that an agent offered the Brazilian to Roma after he made only nine Premier League appearances in his debut year at Old Trafford.

The Serie A side reportedly prefer a loan move with a purchase option, which they could evaluate after Spinazzola’s return.

Ramy Bensebaini is described as higher on Mourinho’s wishlist but Borussia Monchengladbach want over £25million for the defender.

Roma already have teenager Riccardo Calafiori ready to step into Spinazzola’s shoes, and the new coach even posted a clip of himself studying the left-back to his Instagram after taking over.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have only Brandon Williams to back up Luke Shaw should Telles depart.

The 20-year-old is also strongly linked with a loan move to Southampton.

England ace Shaw’s stunning season, capped with a goal in the Euros final, has made it hard for Telles to make the team.

The majority of his appearances have been limited to cup competitions with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer trusting him with only two Prem outings between the turn of the year and mid-May – both of which ended in defeat.

United paid £15.3m for the defender when signing him from Porto in October.

Mourinho’s Roma rebuild is expected to commence soon with the £10m arrival of Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio.
