Jose Mourinho says Spurs would win title in ‘many European countries’ but is just trying to win games in ‘difficult’ PL

JOSE MOURINHO refused to get carried away after Tottenham temporarily went top of the Premier League this afternoon.

Harry Kane’s 88th minute winner saw Spurs edge out strugglers West Brom 1-0 at the Hawthorns.

Mourinho saw his side bag a late 1-0 win

It saw them leapfrog Southampton and, at least for a few hours, Leicester and Liverpool.

Mourinho, 57, however, is taking it one step at a time.

He said: “When a team is champion, or plays for the title, there is always a direct relation to your direct opponents.

“I could say that this team could be champions in many European countries. It’s so difficult in the Premier League though. There are so many good clubs.

“You can have a good season and still not be champions. We’ll just try to win.

“I promise you I’m not bothered about Leicester vs Wolves or City vs Liverpool. I just want us to win games and then we’ll see where we are.”

As it happened, Spurs’ lead at the top of the table did only last a matter of hours, with Leicester subsequently beating Wolves 1-0 to go top of the league themselves.

Kane, 27, netted his 200th Tottenham goal in his 300th appearance against Ludogorets in mid-week.

Harry Kane reached yet another milestone

And he kept up his incredible form, reaching another landmark in the process.

The Spurs talisman and England captain bagged his 150th Premier League goal as he broke Baggies hearts late on.

Jubilant, he tweeted after the match: “To win and score my 150th Premier League goal… perfect afternoon.”
