JURGEN KLOPP has apologised to the translator that he branded “s***” before Liverpool’s Champions League clash with RB Salzburg last night.
The German was fuming when the translator accidentally said the exact opposite of the answer given by skipper Jordan Henderson.
The 29-year-old had spoken of how being winners of last year’s competition “doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy,” against their Austrian opponents.
But the translator, speaking in German, told the room that Henderson had said that the Reds would be going “easy” in the game.
Klopp, sat next to the translator, was fuming.
He shook his head before saying: “It’s s***, of course, when a translator, when a German speaking coach is sitting here. ”
He then went on to scold the embarrassed translator: “So you need to listen, not – otherwise I can translate myself. It’s not difficult.”
But following Liverpool’s subsequent 2-0 win, sealing safe progression through to the Round of 16, Klopp wanted to apologise for his outburst.
He began his press conference by saying: “Before we start I’d like to apologise for yesterday.
“I know that it was unfair and even more so as it happened in public.
“It was completely stupid. I didn’t like the way my answer was translated, but the way I addressed it was stupid.
“I should have done better and I’m sorry.”
He then shook the translator’s hand, having apologised in German, before grinning and joking: “Now in English”.
A defeat would have eliminated the Reds, but goals from Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah saw them ease past Salzburg with relative comfort.
The victory saw them leapfrog Napoli into first place in the group – and the Italians subsequently sacked boss Carlo Ancelotti.
The Reds continue their march towards the title with a home match against Watford on Saturday, before jetting out to the Club World Cup next week.
