ITALIAN champions Juventus are set to rival Manchester United for the much-coveted signature of Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez, according to reports.
The Mexican has been in fine form once again this season, scoring 22 goals in all competitions for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
The 29-year-old made his switch to Molineux permanent last summer for around £34million, having spent the West Midlanders’ first season back in the top-flight on loan from Benfica.
And his excellent performances have drawn the keen eyes of Manchester United.
With Marcus Rashford having favoured the left-wing position – boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been left with only one senior striker in Anthony Martial for much of the season.
Club bosses see Jimenez as an ideal man to come in and fill the void left by the departure of Romelu Lukaku last summer.
But despite what is set to be a depleted market because of the coronavirus pandemic, Wolves will still be looking to make a handsome profit on their No9.
And in addition to this hurdle, The Times claim that Juventus are set to rival the Red Devils for his signature – as they seek to upgrade on Gonzalo Higuain.
Despite the portly Argentine being a favourite of manager Maurizio Sarri, club chiefs are less than happy with his five-goal haul this season.
The 32-year-old is the club’s third-highest earner – with only Cristiano Ronaldo and Matthijs de Ligt raking in more at the Allianz Stadium.
But with his contract expiring in 2021, Juve are eager to get the former Chelsea, AC Milan and Real Madrid striker off the books once and for all.
Should United miss out on Jimenez, they may be more likely to push for a permanent transfer for loanee Odion Ighalo.
The Nigerian, 30, has made eight appearances for the Red Devils, scoring four times since his Deadline Day loan switch from Shanghai Shenhua.
