Kasper Schmeichel linked with shock move to Celtic to reunite with former manager Brendan Rodgers

Leicester City departure and free agency

Kasper Schmeichel, the Danish goalkeeper, is being linked with a surprising move to Celtic that would see him reunite with his former manager, Brendan Rodgers. The 36-year-old left Leicester City to join French side Nice 12 months ago after spending 11 years at the King Power Stadium. However, earlier this week, his contract with the Ligue 1 club was terminated, making him a free agent on the lookout for a new challenge as he enters the latter stages of his career.

Celtic eyeing Schmeichel as competition for Joe Hart

According to The Daily Record, Celtic is now considering Schmeichel as potential competition for their current number one goalkeeper, Joe Hart. The move would make sense, as Schmeichel had previously spent three years playing under Rodgers at Leicester and the pair achieved the club's first-ever FA Cup trophy in 2021. Schmeichel had praised Rodgers as one of the best managers he has ever seen up close when he departed for Nice.

Recent developments and departure from Nice

Last season, Schmeichel played 36 out of Nice's 38 Ligue 1 games. However, he was replaced by Marcin Bulka at the start of the new campaign after Bulka's arrival from Paris Saint-Germain. Following the termination of his contract, the club released a statement confirming Schmeichel's exit and expressing their well wishes for his future career.
