FRANK LAMPARD has not ruled out a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani as Chelsea look to boost their squad this month.
The Blues boss is looking to take some of the pressure off first-choice striker Tammy Abraham and cement his side’s place in the top four.
It comes as Uruguayan striker Cavani hands in a transfer request to force a move away from PSG this month.
Lampard could be tempted by a deal for the 32-year-old, who is wanted by Atletico Madrid.
Speaking about Cavani’s situation, Lampard said: “He is a great player, I played against him.
“I am not sure what the situation is there though.
“He has experience, sometimes it’s good to bring in experience.”
Cavani’s contract expires at the end of the season but he wants to leave PSG immediately.
The Ligue 1 side’s sporting director Leonardo revealed: “We’ve always said the same thing. We were hoping he would stay with the club, but today (Sunday) he asked to leave.
“We’re studying the situation. We’ve had a proposal from Atletico Madrid, but that proposal was not commensurate with the player’s value.”
PSG reportedly want 26million for Cavani.
With Lampard set to offload Olivier Giroud and unconvinced by Michy Batshauyi, a new striker is a top priority this month.
Chelsea have recently been linked with a move for in-form German forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig.
There is a lot of pressure on Abraham to bag the goals for Chelsea and when he doesn’t, they struggle for a back-up plan.
He has only scored twice in his last eight league matches and is still developing under Lampard.
The Blues’ most recent outing saw them miss a host of chances before a late goal saw them lose 1-0 to Newcastle.
The 22-year-old, who was on loan at Aston Villa in the Championship last season. is the club’s top scorer with 13 goals in the league this season, with the next best being Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount both on just five for the campaign.
Chelsea are still in the top four despite an inconsistent spell of four wins in their last 11 league matches.
A last-minute defeat to Newcastle saw Lampard’s side miss the chance to extend the gap to fifth-place Manchester United to eight points.
The Blues will be hoping to bounce back from that defeat when they host Arsenal tomorrow night.
