Lampard says Willian contract talks ongoing as he tries to keep hold of Chelsea forward

FRANK LAMPARD has revealed that Chelsea contract talks with Willian are “ongoing” – as the Blues try to keep hold of the soon-to-be out-of-contract star.

The 31-year-old Brazilian was able to speak to foreign clubs in January, with his Stamford Bridge deal set to end in June.

Willian could still stay at Chelsea, says boss Frank Lampard

Spurs are reportedly after the winger, who originally snubbed the North Londoners to sign for Chelsea in 2013.

Chelsea are thought to have offered him a two-year deal, but Willian wants a three-year contract – and a rise in his £110,000-a-week wages.

Many thought the South American wizard would leave West London in the summer for a new challenge.

Barcelona are also after the player.

Lampard reacted after Willian revealed in an interview with Brazilian TV channel Esporte Interativo that talks with Chelsea had stalled as he wants a deal until 2023.

Lamps said: “It’s an ongoing conversation. Maybe [Willian talking now] was not ideal timing but I get asked every three days here, players get asked after games and it’s not always easy for them. People want some form of answer.

“Conversations are ongoing but at the minute I don’t want to get too drawn into it because I am the manager of the team and don’t want to look too far down towards the summer.

“It’s why some of the headlines this week had a slight sense of frustration for me because we are working day-to-day to finish the job this season and we are not jumping ahead to the summer.

“But Willy’s one is an ongoing situation. It’s not over. We’ll see.”

Willian joined Chelsea from Russian club Anzhi in a £32million deal- just hours after having a medical at White Hart Lane.
