Lampard should drastically switch Chelsea line-up to 4-2-2-2 with Kai Havertz and Timo Werner up front to save his job

FRANK LAMPARD should switch his Chelsea line-up to a 4-2-2-2 to help deliver better results on the pitch and save his job.

There is a lot more to winning matches than just a line-up, and of course there are plenty of factors behind Chelsea‘s poor form and current rut.

Frank Lampard’s job as Chelsea boss is under pressure

However, I think there are some things Lampard could do that will help him get better outcomes on the pitch – one obvious move would be to switch formation.

It is clear that Lampard has the idea of perfecting the 4-3-3 in his mind, but right now it is not working and teams are finding it far too easy and predictable to play against.

I think Lampard recognises this, and that is why we have seen him switch to variations of the 4-4-2 in recent matches.

I believe that we need to work on a 4-2-2-2 formation, or a variation of this, in order to not only surprise teams, but to get the best out of our new signings.

I hear the argument that we should not be changing a formation or doing anything special to accommodate new signings, I get that.

However, when you spend £250million on new talent and they aren’t doing it by the midway point of the season – it is time to try something different.

In my opinion, a 4-2-2-2 with Timo Werner and Kai Havertz up top, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic behind with Mason Mount and N’Golo Kante further back is the way to go.

I believe this will see us get the best out of both the shiny new German international signings.

Chelsea need to get big money Germans Kai Havertz and Timo Werner firing

If you ask any German football expert, they will tell you that Werner plays better centrally, but playing close to another forward.

And they will also tell you that Havertz needs to be playing very advanced, even as a false nine if you are to get the very best out of him – this option combines the two.

Play Havertz and Werner up top together, and let Ziyech and Pulisic or Callum Hudson-Odoi be the free roaming creative sparks behind them.

I understand that Ziyech would always prefer to be playing centrally rather than out wide, so this suits him.

Then you have that protection at the back of Kante and Mount, who will drop in to allow our full backs to push on and join the attack to give it width.

Abramovich has spent over £110m on sacking managers since his 2003 arrival

This is a formation that you can switch up in game and can turn it into a 4-5-1 if we are under pressure, allowing Havertz to drop deeper.

Mount in a deep pivot really interests me.

He has the energy and defensive capabilities to be good there, he’s comfortable receiving the ball in tight spaces, and his leadership qualities will be beneficial in deep areas when organising the press and those around him.

Remember, I am not saying this fixes all of our problems, and it may not even fire as a formation over night, but I just think right now that we need to try something different and this formation complements the new signings perfectly.
