Leeds ‘open contract talks with Kalvin Phillips’ in desperate bid to keep club legend from £60m Man Utd transfer

LEEDS have launched contract talks with rumoured Manchester United target Kalvin Phillips, according to reports.

The homegrown star took to the Premier League like a duck to water last season, forcing his way into Gareth Southgate’s England starting XI.

Kalvin Phillips is a man in demand

His outstanding form under Marcelo Bielsa has drawn many admiring glances, including from the Red Devils.

According to the Daily Star, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are keen on signing the £60million-rated midfielder next summer.

They feel that he offers a more cost-effective alternative to his Three Lions colleague Declan Rice.

But the Whites aren’t willing to let their star man leave without a fight.

The Star add that Leeds have opened contract talks with the 25-year-old.

His current deal, signed when the Elland Road club were still in the Championship, runs until June 2024.

Phillips has started all but one of Leeds’ matches in all competitions this season – only missing out on their 5-1 opening day loss at Old Trafford.

The 17-cap star was born in the city, and has gone on to make 218 appearances for his boyhood club.

His excellent performances for his country saw him named England Men’s Player of the Year for last season.
