Lionel Messi proved right about Mason Mount as Chelsea star becomes 10th most expensive player in the world

LIONEL MESSI was proven right about Mason Mount as the Chelsea star emerged as the tenth most expensive player in the world.

Barcelona legend Messi tipped Mount as one for the future alongside Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho.

And according to to the CIES Football Observatory algorithm, Mount is worth a massive £105million at just 22-years-old.

It means he ranks in the ten most valuable player in Europe’s top five leagues.

Mount was voted Chelsea’s player of the season having scored nine goals with the same numbers of assists in 54 appearances.

He was a major part in the Blues fourth-placed Premier League finish and European winning campaign.

Messi – considered one of the greatest players of all times – would have been left unsurprised, having spotted the England midfielder’s talent

He said in March 2020: “Having watched him play he has the potential to be one of the best.”

Manchester City’s Foden, 21, as well as United pair Mason Greenwood, 19 and Marcus Rashford, 23, were valued higher than Mount.

With Foden expected to play a big role at Euro 2020, he was rated to be worth £163m – topping the list.

Greenwood was valued at £153m with team-mate Rashford at £136m.

Next up is Borussia Dortmund striker Elring Haaland, 20, (£133m), with United’s Bruno Fernandes, 26, (£132m) completing the top four.

Barcelona duo Frenkie De Jong, 24, (£118m) and Pedri, 18, (£114m) are sixth and seventh respectively having become key players under Ronald Koeman.

Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, 20, is in eighth spot with CIES valuing him at £112m.

Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix, 21, (£109m) with Chelsea’s fan favourite Mason Mount (£105m) completing the top ten.

CIES also have valued City’s goalkeeper Ederson, 27, (£53m) as the most expensive shot-stopper.

And his Citizens team-mate Ruben Dias, 24, (£98m) has been named as the most expensive centre-back in the top five leagues.
