Liverpool boss Klopp makes prediction about Gerrard after getting in touch with him following his sacking by Aston Villa

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp predicted that club legend Steven Gerrard will return to the dugout one day after his dismissal as Aston Villa manager.

Gerrard, 42, was sacked after Villa were beaten 3-0 away at Fulham on Thursday, which makes it six defeats in 11 matches and leaves the club fighting against Premier League relegation.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp expects Steven Gerrard to make a comeback

Steven Gerrard was sacked as Aston Villa manager following a run of poor results

The Liverpool legend was fired less than a year into the job with a record of 13 wins, eight draws and 19 losses from 40 games across all competitions in charge.

Klopp revealed he had a “little exchange” with the legendary midfielder after his departure and hopes he takes some time off to recharge.

The German tactician insists the man touted as his future replacement at the Kop will make a strong comeback one day.

Klopp said: “He will come back from that, I’m sure.

“I’ve been here seven years at Liverpool, we’ve not met a lot for different reasons, but we created a close relationship and I’ve always followed him. We had a little exchange this morning, but nothing too deep.

“These things can happen. A lot of great managers out there had to leave clubs for different reasons.

“He will be back 100 per cent but I hope now he takes a bit of time for him.

“Since he finished his career, he’s worked all the time so maybe use the time to recharge.”

HOW TO GET FREE BETS ON FOOTBALL

Villa are now rigorously searching for Gerrard‘s replacement ahead of what could be a relegation scrap.

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino appears to be among the most attractive targets as he is still a free agent after his dismissal from Paris Saint-Germain.
