Liverpool ‘invite 17-year-old Toronto wonderkid Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty on trial’ amid Man Utd transfer interest

JAHKEELE MARSHALL-RUTTY is being given a chance to wow Liverpool’s talent spotters, according to reports.

The Prem giants have allowed the Canadian starlet to train with them with Manchester United among the sides thought to be keen on the winger.

Arsenal and Manchester United are rumoured to be interested in Liverpool target Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty

The Liverpool Echo reports Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Juventus have been eyeing the 17-year-old who currently plies his trade at MLS club Toronto.

And the youngster, who signed a first team deal with the club in 2020, received his first senior international call-up to Canada’s men’s team in January this year.

That move saw the then-16-year-old become the youngest ever player to be called into the side, beating the record set by Alphonso Davies by five days.

But the Bayern Munich left-back, 21, remains the only player to have earned a full Canada men’s cap at the age of 16.

Marshall-Rutty made his senior debut for Toronto in February 2020 against Philadelphia Union coming on as a substitute for ex-Swansea midfield ace Alejandro Pozuelo.

The Liverpool and Man Utd target has made 19 appearances across all competitions this term, scoring once and providing three assists.

Marshall-Rutty’s style has seen him compared to his compatriot Davies with the latter taking the Bundesliga by storm following a January 2019 move from Vancouver.

Since then the full-back has helped the German giants to win 10 major trophies including three top-flight titles and one Champions League crown.

On comparisons with Davies, Marshall-Rutty told Goal in February: “I’d say to get compared to (Davies), obviously I was honoured, but I don’t really look at breaking history as the youngest player.

“He’s at Bayern Munich and he’s achieved so much.

“He paved the path for young players like me, but I just think the most important thing when you’re younger is just to stay focused on the football side.

“All that young history stuff doesn’t really matter at the end of the day.”

Marshall-Rutty admitted he would relish the show off his skills in Europe prior to the 2026 World Cup due to be held in North America.

The winger added: “For Canadian players, it’s a great time in this generation to be a young athlete like me.”
