Liverpool set to be beaten in Ugurcan Cakir transfer race as Borussia Dortmund make late swoop for Trabzonspor keeper

LIVERPOOL face a fight for Ugurcan Cakir after Borussia Dortmund emerged as contenders for the Turkish goalkeeper.

The 25-year-old came through the Trabzonspor academy to cement his place as the side’s first-choice shot-stopper and captain.

Ugurcan Cakir has caught the eye of Liverpool with his Trabzonspor performances

According to Fotospor, via Fanatik, the race is on to snap up Cakir with Liverpool and Dortmund both keen.

The Reds are set to wave goodbye to back-up keeper Adrian when his contract expires in the summer.

That would leave Irish youngster Caoimhin Kelleher as first reserve to Alisson Becker amid talk of a new addition.

But Dortmund have already reportedly lodged a £17million bid for Cakir.

Trabzonspor are said to be pondering the offer as they consider their options.

It is thought the Super Lig side want upwards of £25m for their star man as well as a 25 per cent sell-on clause.

And the club reportedly planned to deal with Cakir’s future after Euro 2020, in the hope his performances for Turkey would increase his value.

But a sale is certainly on the cards with Istanbul Basaksehir’s Mert Gunok and Gokhan Akkan of Caykur Rizespor eyed as replacements.

Borussia have Roman Burki and Marwin Hitz as their two first-team goalkeepers but may be forced into a busy summer if they fail to reach the Champions League.

According to German outlet Nuhr Nachrichten, the Bundesliga side are exploring the market for new shot-stoppers – but only as a precaution.
