Constantine Hatzidakis has been cleared following an FA investigation

Robertson was left incensed by the alleged incident, which occurred on the half-time whistle at Anfield last weekend.

Television replays appeared to show Hatzidakis strike the full-back.

Referee Paul Tierney then gave the Scot a yellow card for his protestations.

The officials were subsequently surrounded by Liverpool players, including a furious Robertson.

And they were booed off by the crowd after exchanging stern words with Reds skipper Jordan Henderson, who fought his team-mate’s case.

There were immediate calls for Hatzidakis to be banned, with the official taken off duty for this weekend’s round of games.

But the FA have confirmed that following an investigation, no further action will be taken.

They said: “We have thoroughly reviewed all of the evidence in relation to the recent incident at Anfield involving the Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson and match official Constantine Hatzidakis, and we will be taking no further action.

“Our comprehensive process involved reviewing detailed statements from Liverpool and PGMOL, as well as multiple angles of video footage, in relation to both the incident and its surrounding circumstances.”

Hatzidakis also released a brief statement, adding: “I have discussed the matter directly with Andy Robertson during an open & positive conversation.

“It was not my intention to make any contact with Andy as I pulled my arm away from him and for that I have apologised.”

The conclusion of the investigation comes a day after Hatzidakis finally broke his silence on the matter.

He said: “Whatever happens, happens.

“There is nothing more I can say at the moment. I can’t talk about what happened.”
