LIVERPOOL have been crowned the winners of this year’s Masters Football.
The famous six-a-side tournament returned to Braehead tonight with the Reds facing Celtic, Rangers and Man Utd across the evening.
And it was an eventful one, as we witnessed some club legends battle it out against old friends and foes.
Here is a rundown of how the night unfolded in Glasgow.
The evening kicked off with Liverpool against Rangers and it wasn’t the ideal start for the Ibrox side.
It finished 6-2 for the English giants after Luis Garcia ran riot, scoring four goals to kick off the night.
Robbie Fowler and Stewart Downing scored the other two, while Kris Boyd and Michael Mols found the net for Rangers.
And after the Gers annihilation, it was then Celtic’s turn to test themselves against Man Utd, but again it was the English who came out on top.
Danny Webber opened the scoring and gave United the lead going into the break.
Stan Petrov showed his skill and found the equaliser early in the second half but his strike was soon cancelled out.
After confusion at the back between Kelvin and Mark Wilson, they left John O’Shea free in the box, who calmly slotted the ball past Rab Douglas in the Celtic goal.
Carlton Cole had chances to give the Hoops an equaliser but he couldn’t find the net and United earned the three points.
After the first two games, it was Liverpool who were sitting at the top of the table and their English rivals were second.
Rangers were bottom of the pile, however, followed by Celtic in third.
The next round of fixtures meant that the Parkhead players were thrown straight back out to face Liverpool.
It was arguably the tightest match and it was the only half of football without someone finding the net, as it went into half-time a goalless stalemate.
Mark Wilson then fired Celtic in front not long after the break, but it was soon cancelled out by Downing’s equaliser.
Unfortunately for the Hoops, Garcia then showed his magic again to find the net for the fifth time of the night with just a few seconds to go, as Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the table.
Rangers then faced Man Utd and the Gers got off to their winning ways.
They beat United 4-2 after goals from Barry Ferguson, Mols and a Pedro Mendes double.
Darron Gibson scored a beauty and Chris Eagles netted as well but it wasn’t enough to prevent Rangers getting the three points.
And then it was the third round of fixtures, and the biggest of the night.
Celtic faced Rangers in an Old Firm clash and Man Utd took on their arch rivals Liverpool also.
The Glasgow derby ended in a 2-2 draw, but it was a fiery affair!
Kenny Miller and Hoops goalkeeper Douglas even had a small spat during the tie.
But it was Boyd and Miller who both found the net once again for the Gers and Carlton Cole and Petrov scored for Celtic.
It doubles Cole’s tally in a Hoops shirt as he only scored one during his short stint in Glasgow under Ronny Deila.
The draw meant that Rangers still had a chance of qualifying for the final, but needed Man Utd to lose in their final tie against the champions.
Celtic knew their fate though and were dead last after the game, as it was their only point of the night.
But the final match ended in a 4-2 win for United, much to the surprise of most, which meant it was then a replay for the final after a short break.
And then Liverpool fought off United in the final after going 3-1 up early doors.
They allowed their opponents to get back into it though as it was pulled back to 3-3.
But then it was Downing and Garcia yet again putting on a show as two quickfire goals late on sealed the win and the trophy for the Merseyside outfit.
It rounded off a successful night in Braehead, despite neither of the Old Firm sides reaching the final.
But they will hope for its return next year so they can get another chance to battle it out once again.
