Mainz ask Klopp to hurry up and sign Timo Werner after Liverpool transfer target breaks scoring record against them

MAINZ have asked Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to hurry up and sign Timo Werner in a hilarious tweet after the ace broke his scoring record against them.

The German star took his season tally to 30 with a stunning hat-trick in RB Leipzig’s 5-0 demolition of Mainz on Sunday.

Mainz asked Liverpool boss Klopp to hurry up and sign Timo Werner in a hilarious tweet

Liverpool and Chelsea were put on red alert as the German made it 24 strikes in just 27 Bundesliga matches this season.

Mainz were put to the sword by the Bundesliga golden boy, who opened the scoring before finding the net twice in the second-half, with Yussuf Poulsen and Marcel Sabitzer also on target.

The German outfit even took to Twitter to beg Reds boss Klopp to show Leipzig’s opponents some mercy and snare the 24-year-old out of the German top-flight.

The club’s official Twitter account wrote: “Kloppo, can you take him already?”

Anfield are thought to be closing in on a £52million deal for the Germany sensation with sources claiming the transfer is “happening”.

Liverpool are reportedly so desperate to land the Bundesliga hotshot that they are willing to turf out three valuable assets to stump up the dough for the striker.

Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic are all surplus to requirements for Klopp’s side and could be of interest to other clubs.

Werner is under contract with Julian Nagelsmann’s side until 2023 after he extended his deal last summer and his £52m release expires in June which would allow Leipzig to crank up the asking price for their star striker.

The Merseysiders received a major boost when Werner revealed he would rather take on a challenge abroad than move to German giants Bayern Munich.

But they face a fight with Chelsea who are also keen and on the hunt for a new forward to lead the line.

The German international is reportedly high on Lamps’ summer wishlist as he is ready to let Olivier Giroud leave and bring in added quality to provide serious competition to Tammy Abraham.

And there is believed to be interest from both Real Madrid and Barcelona with Karim Benzema and Luis Suarez both nearing the end of their careers.

However Werner has a special place in his heart for the Reds who he recently hailed as “the best team in the world”.

But Leipzig director Markus Krosche has since admitted any transfer could be cancelled because of the financial uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus
