Man City and England U21 keeper James Trafford ‘in talks with Burnley over shock £19m transfer’

BURNLEY are in advanced talks to sign Manchester City’s James Trafford.

The goalie, 20, has been the breakout star of England‘s Under-21s Euros campaign.

Burnley are interested in James Trafford

Leicester were tracking his progress but Premier League new-boys Burnley are pushing ahead with a deal worth £15million rising to £19m.

Should the move come off, it would see Clarets chief Vincent Kompany raid old City again having previously loaned Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

Trafford, 20, has kept four consecutive clean sheets in England’s four Under-21s games so far and is set to start the semi-final against Israel.

He spent last season on at Bolton where he played in the League One play-off semi-final.

During the whole campaign for The Wanderers, Trafford managed to keep 26 clean sheets in 52 appearances.

Trafford has shown plenty of promise but a move to Burnley would see him compete at the highest level of his career to date, having never played above League One.

Burnley have already signed three players this summer as they try to strengthen ahead of their Premier League return.

The Lancashire outfit signed goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux from Leyton Orient and defender Dara O’Shea from West Brom.

So should Burnley manage to sign Trafford he will be competing with Vigrouroux, Arijanet Muric, and Bailey Peacock-Farrell for a spot in the starting eleven.

Trafford may back himself to force his way into the Burnley team instead of the Manchester City one.

At the Etihad, he would be behind Ederson, Stefan Ortega, Scott Carson, and Zack Steffen in the pecking order.

The club has also confirmed the permanent capture of Jordan Beyer from Borussia Monchengladbach.

He has signed a four-year contract with the club after spending last season on loan at Turf Moor.
