WAYNE ROONEY wants to bring Manchester United outcast Phil Jones to Derby on loan in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Red Devils are set to allow the outcast defender, 28, to leave on loan this winter.

Premier League clubs Burnley and West Brom are both interested in the £120,000-a-week star.

But Jones could be tempted to link up with former United team-mate Rooney at Derby, according to the Star.

Jones was left out of Man Utd‘s 25-man Premier League squad earlier this season.

And boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to loan him to keep himself match fit.

The biggest stumbling block for any potential suitor would be Jones‘ sky-high wages.

But the report claims United are willing to pay a large chunk of his £120,000 weekly pay-packet.

That could see Derby swoop as they bid to improve their standing, currently languishing in 22nd in the Championship.

The Rams are unbeaten since Rooney took over as manager, drawing four and winning two of his six games.

And the Old Trafford legend wants to bolster his back-line with a move for his former club and international team-mate.

However, he faces competition from both Burnley and West Brom.

The Baggies recently hired Sam Allardyce to take over from Slaven Bilic.

Big Sam was Jones’ boss at Blackburn early in his career, before Sir Alex Ferguson lured him to Manchester.

Allardyce is also in the market for reunions with Andy Carroll and James Tomkins in January.

Meanwhile, Burnley are only likely to make a move for Jones should they lose in-demand James Tarkowski in the winter window.
