Man Utd and Arsenal offered Samuel Umtiti by Barcelona as club look to raise summer transfer funds

MANCHESTER UNITED and Arsenal have been offered Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti in the summer, according to reports.

The French World Cup winner has been told he is free to leave the Catalan giants at the end of season with injuries continuing to prevent his progress.

An ongoing knee issue has limited him to just 11 league games throughout the campaign.

With Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet the preferred partnership in defence, Barcelona are prepared to let him leave for the right price.

According to Sport, the club have been tasked with making £118million profit through player sales in the summer and will earn a hefty chunk by selling Umtiti.

The 26-year-old joined the Nou Camp for £22m in 2016 and he has gone on to win four major pieces of silverware in Spain.

United boss Ole Gunner Solskjaer will be handed a transfer warchest in the summer that could see the arrival of big-name signings.

A central defender remains on the shortlist along with a new midfielder and striker.

United have had a long-standing interest in the France international while Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is also desperate to bolster his back four.

Shkodran Mustafi is likely to leave while Sokratis has also fallen out of favour.

It is thought Umtiti’s game would be well-suited to the Premier League, where he would have plenty of compatriots to help settle him in, such as Alexandre Lacazette and Matteo Guendouzi.
