Man Utd and Chelsea ‘in straight fight to land Jonathan David transfer after sensational season at Lille’

MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea are set to duke it out for striker Jonathan David this summer, according to reports.

The Canada international has caught the eye of several clubs this season with a string of scintillating displays for Ligue 1 big boys Lille.

Jonathan David has been in sensational form for Lille this season

The Canadian is said to have caught the eye of Prem duo Manchester United and Chelsea

Former Gent hitman David is said to have a number of clubs interested in acquiring his services.

And according to French newspaper L’Equipe, Prem rivals United and Chelsea will battle it out to bring him to England this summer.

It’s also claimed that managerless Tottenham also hold an interest in snapping up the 23-year-old.

David has been in fine form for Paulo Fonseca’s side – who are currently fifth in the Ligue 1 table – this season.

The Canadian has scored 24 goals and provided four assists in 34 appearances in all competitions.

And Fonseca recently admitted Lille will do well to hold on to their star man this summer.

He said last December: “It will be difficult to keep Jonathan David at the club next season.

“There are not many strikers with his skills and numbers in Europe.

“He’s just 22.”

David remains fully committed to Lille, although he recently admitted he wants to test himself in the top flight of English football.

He said: “The Premier League is the best league in the world and every player would want to play there someday.”

David and his Lille team-mates will be back in action later this afternoon, welcoming Ajaccio to the Stade Pierre Mauroy.
