MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly looking to steal a march on Real Madrid in the race to snare teenage starlet Eduardo Camavinga away from Rennes.
It had been claimed that Los Blancos were in pole position to land the 17-year-old after the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund pulled out of the running to sign him.
Zinedine Zidane is believed to be a huge fan of his French compatriot, where he has identified the midfielder as a long-term replacement for Casemiro.
But the Metro state that the LaLiga side now face competition from the Red Devils, where they will look to snap him up at the end of the season.
However unlike Real, they will send the generational talent back to Rennes on a season-long loan to tempt the French outfit into accepting.
Rennes have qualified for the Champions League next season after the Ligue 1 season was scrapped when they were in third place, with the club keen on keeping him for the competition.
The report adds that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side have scouted Camavinga over a dozen times during the last year.
And United are said to be confident of beating Real to secure his services where they believe they can bring him to Old Trafford in a deal worth £25million.
Camavinga has two years left to run on his contract at Rennes, leaving United hopeful that they can get the youngster for a reduced price.
Rennes had been asking for around £60m, but due to the coronavirus crisis, clubs are unwilling to fork out that much money.
Camavinga burst on the scene last season where he became the youngest ever player to feature for Rennes.
And his stock has continued to rise this term with the French youth international appearing in 36 games in all competitions.
