MANCHESTER UNITED have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho, according to reports.
That is because Real Madrid are understood to have revived their interest in the Borussia Dortmund winger.
According to the Mail, Los Blancos are preparing a fresh summer move, three years after they missed out on Sancho.
The England star, 19, left Manchester City in 2017 to join Dortmund where he has gone from strength to strength, cementing his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
But the German club are now thought to be resigned to the idea of losing Sancho at the end of this season.
However, they are determined to receive in excess of 100million for the winger, who is out of contract in 2022.
He has racked up three goals and six assists in eight Bundesliga games this term and bagged him first Three Lions goals in the 5-3 win over Kosovo in September.
Manchester United are long-term admirers of Sancho and are keen to lure him back to England.
But a likely bid from Real Madrid would throw a major spanner into the works at Old Trafford.
United look unlikely to be able to offer Champions League football next season – and any European qualification remains an uphill task.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side currently sit tenth, ten points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea and 18 off leaders Liverpool after 11 games.
Madrid, meanwhile, would not only offer the chance to perform in Europe’s elite club competition but also present Sancho with a genuine chance of winning it.
If Dortmund do accept a bid for Sancho, whether that be from United, Madrid or another potential suitor such as Paris Saint-Germain, they must inform previous club Manchester City.
That clause could therefore spark a late move from the Premier League champions who would have the option to counter any offer that comes in.
