However, the Red Devils continue to be linked with several other forwards as the transfer window prepares to re-open.

United have held a long-term interest in Dortmund star Erling Haaland but the Norwegian looks set to remain in Germany for at least another season.

They are huge fans of the England international but know any potential deal would be expensive with tough negotiator Daniel Levy.

United also face competition from home and abroad for the 27-year-old, with Chelsea, Man City and Paris Saint-Germain also interested.

When asked if he would rule out adding a striker, Solskjaer said: “No, of course I can’t. Yeah Edi (Cavani) signed but how many good strikers have we had at this club?

When quizzed directly about Kane, he replied: “I can’t comment on other teams players and what’s been speculated and said.

“I want to show the respect Tottenham deserve and not talk about their players.”
