Man Utd closing in on Frenkie de Jong transfer as ‘Daley Blind bigs up club’ – and Barcelona target Prem replacements

MANCHESTER UNITED are closing in on Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong, according to reports.

The Red Devils are determined to reunite the former Ajax ace with his old boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

Frenkie de Jong could move to Man Utd this summer

United have already had a £60million bid turned down for the Dutch midfielder.

But Barcelona could opt to sell to raise money for other targets.

According to Spanish paper Sport, Barca want around £70m for the 25-year-old’s services.

They add that this windfall could fund moves for Wolves ace Ruben Neves and Leeds star Raphinha.

The former has received interest from Arsenal and Man United, while Raphinha is also admired by Emirates chiefs.

Bild, meanwhile, claim that Barca are chasing Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan.

The German has one year remaining on his Etihad contract, and reportedly supported Barcelona as a child.

Juventus are also monitoring Gundogan’s situation, although the player himself would prefer Barca.

Xavi recently claimed that De Jong remains in his plans, saying: “I have said many times that Frenkie is very important.

“He’s a key player. Then there is also the financial situation of the club and it has to be decided. I’m not talking about Frenkie, in general.”

It’s believed that securing an extension with wonderkid Gavi is seen as a priority over retaining De Jong, however.

The midfielder was previously thought to be determined to stay and fight for his place at Barca.

But United writer Tom McDermott now claims that he has agreed terms after talks with Ten Hag and United old boy Daley Blind.

De Jong has reportedly spoken to former team-mate and Man Utd ace Daley Blind
