Man Utd hero Marcus Rashford takes knee for Black Lives Matter alongside Prem stars days after school meals victory

MARCUS RASHFORD continued his fight for social justice as he joined Premier League stars in showing solidarity with Black Lives Matter.

The Manchester United whizkid scored a stunning victory off the field this week as he managed to force the Government into a U-turn over providing free school meals this summer.

Spurs stars and Rashford’s Man Utd team-mates also took a knee

And Rashford, 22, took a knee while raising his right fist before the hard-fought 1-1 draw against top-four rivals Tottenham.

Every player in last night’s fixtures, as well as Wednesday’s Project Restart kick-off, went down on one knee to join worldwide anti-racism protests.

Footie stars have been using their position to highlight issues of inequality and Rashford has emerged as a powerful voice.

In a moving open letter to MPs, the striker called for kids from poorer backgrounds to be given food when schools are closed

And after initially dismissing the impassioned plea, the Government relented and will provide £15 a week meal vouchers for struggling kids in England during the summer holidays.

Rashford has been widely praised with some even calling for him to replace Boris Johnson as Prime Minister.

And he celebrated his victory by tweeting: “I don’t even know what to say. Just look at what we can do when we come together, THIS is England in 2020.

“To all MPs: This was never about me or you, this was never about politics, this was a cry out for help from vulnerable parents all over the country and I simply provided a platform for their voices to be heard.

“I stand proud today knowing that we have listened, and we have done what is right.

“There is still a long way to go but I am thankful to you all that we have given these families just one less thing to worry about tonight.

“The wellbeing of our children should ALWAYS be a priority.”

Jadon Sancho was among the stars to back kind-hearted Rash as he replied: “I stand by you all the way!

“Growing up in London a lot of the kids their parents struggled financially so having free school meals was a saviour!”

Southampton and Norwich also showed solidarity before the earlier kick-off
