Man Utd in Talks Over ‘Bruno Fernandes 2.0’ Wonderkid

Man Utd Hold Discussions with Benfica Over Joao Neves Signing

Manchester United have reportedly engaged in talks with Benfica regarding the possible signing of 18-year-old wonderkid Joao Neves. Dubbed as the "Bruno Fernandes 2.0," the Red Devils have shown a strong interest in the promising young talent.

Benfica Aware of United's Interest

Benfica is well aware of Manchester United's interest in Joao Neves and has been in discussions with the Premier League club about a potential deal. However, it is believed that a transfer might not happen until next summer, as the Portuguese club is not planning to sell Neves until then. However, if Benfica exits the Champions League group stage, they may be open to a January transfer.

Chelsea Face Roadblocks in Pursuit

Chelsea has also shown interest in Joao Neves and made an approach a few days ago. However, the fallout from the Enzo Fernandez transfer saga last winter, in which Chelsea landed the World Cup winner for a then-record fee of £107 million, has left a negative impression on Benfica. As a result, the club is reluctant to engage in talks with Chelsea.

Impressive Performances and Key Midfield Metrics

Joao Neves established himself as a regular player for Benfica last season, making 17 appearances in the Liga Portugal and scoring one goal. He has started two out of three league games this season as Benfica looks to defend their title. Standing at 5ft 9in, Neves excels in various key midfield metrics, including tackling, blocking, and progressive passing.

United's Search for Midfield Reinforcements

Manchester United is keen on bolstering their midfield, which has been deemed lightweight this season. In addition to Joao Neves, the club has reportedly looked at other options such as Sofyan Amrabat, Ryan Gravenberch, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Manager Erik ten Hag is also in the market for a left-sided defender following injuries to Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane.
