Chong has made 16 appearances for the Red Devils but last featured in the second leg of the Europa League tie against LASK Linz in August 2020.

Reported on Birmingham’s official site, he said of his move: “I’m excited to get started. Excited to get to know my new teammates and everyone at the Club.

“I spoke to the Manager here and heard about the plans the Club has for this season and for me as well.

“He spoke to me about some improvement points and I’m looking forward to working with him. I want to come here and become a better player and develop.

“I’m really looking forward to getting to know the Championship and to see what it brings.

“I’m a player who likes to get at players, like to dribble and beat players. I’m fast and I’ll try to bring that to the team.

“I’m looking forward to the season and to meet all the fans. I think I’m even more excited than they are!”

It is Chong’s third loan stint since joining Old Trafford in 2016.

Chong spent the start of last season on loan in Germany at Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga and made 15 appearances.

That was before he headed to Belgium in January in a switch to Club Brugge.

Chong only started four Bundesliga games though before going on to feature ten times for Club Brugge.

Chong still has 12 months remaining on his contract at United.

Although they do have the option of adding a further year for the former Feyenoord trainee.
