Man Utd legend Cristiano Ronaldo reveals why he dodged initiation song and made a speech instead on return to club

CRISTIANO Ronaldo has admitted he made a speech to the Manchester United players after his emotional return to the club – instead of singing an initiation song.

CR7 managed to dodge the tradition after revealing he had already sang when he joined the club for the first time EIGHTEEN years ago.

Ronaldo has scored six goals in nine games since his return to Old Trafford
And has helped Solskjaer’s side to two dramatic Champions League victories

The 36-year-old instead gave a rousing speech to his teammates the night before he scored twice on his second Manchester United debut.

So instead of singing, he told Sky Sports his speech went: “I said what I felt in that moment, that I’m here to win. Manchester [United] is synonymous with winning things, I’m not here for holidays.

“So what I said to the, is that I see a huge potential in this team, with very young players, very [high] potential players and I’m here to win.

“And I’m here to help the team to build up new stuff, so I said more stuff but I don’t remember very well.

“But it was good, [it was] a good speech.

“I didn’t sing because I told them that I sang a few years ago… many years ago but it was good.

“The boys understood me, it was a good speech so I was happy that night.”

Fellow summer arrivals Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Tom Heaton weren’t so lucky and could not escape from belting out a tune after arriving at the club.

Ronaldo’s decision to give a speech instead of singing seems to have worked though.

He’s inspired the Red Devils to two late wins in the Champions League.

The third goal in the stunning comeback win against Atalanta followed his dramatic injury time winner against Villarreal.

And without him Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would have lost all three Champions League group games.

Instead they currently top Group F with three games left to play.

Ronaldo has also transferred the words from his speech to the pitch in the Premier League.

Three goals in his first two Prem games helped him scoop the September Player of the Month award.

But he might be having to give his teammates a reminder of his speech today.

The Red Devils host Liverpool at Old Trafford, with Jurgen Klopp’s side yet to be beaten this campaign.
