However the Danish playmaker is also wanted by Brentford, who he starred at on a short-term deal in the second half of the 2021-22 season.

It is understood the 30-year-old will soon make a decision over his future imminently as he mulls over a switch to Old Trafford.

Should United secure the services of De Jong and Eriksen, The Times have declared that Ten Hag will then look to raid former employers for Brazilian forward Antony.

Though they have insisted that the 22-year-old will not be cheap as the Eredivisie champions hold out for a fee in the region of £68.9million.

A defender is then next on Ten Hag’s wishlist, where he could yet again raid Ajax for centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Jurrien Timber.

However they are in competition with Arsenal in the race to snap up Martinez after the Gunners lodged a second bid worth £34.5m for the 24-year-old.

As well as the Ajax pair, Villarreal’s Pau Torres is said to be an option, though the Spaniard has stated he is happy at the club.

United know they must offload players to raise the funds for new signings, with Anthony Martial claimed to have been put up for sale.

Andreas Pereira is another that United hope to cash in on with Fulham recently lodging an £11m offer.

And United are also willing to listen to offers for Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly.
