United are desperate to strengthen their squad and improve on what was a disappointing season last time out.

Under a combination of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, the club could only manage a sixth place finish in the league, missing out on Champions League football next season, while exiting all three cup competitions in the early rounds.

Eriksen has also been linked with signing for Brentford, Newcastle, Everton and Tottenham, whom he’s spent six-and-a-half years with already, this summer.

The midfielder was forced to have an extended break from his career after suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 match last summer.

The midfielder was later fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, which Serie A do not permit, so his contract with Inter Milan, was terminated.

Brentford then signed the free agent, who helped drag the Bees out of a relegation battle and secured the club a 13th place finish in their first top-flight season since 1947.
