Man Utd open transfer talks with Arsenal target Thiago Almada – dubbed the ‘new Lionel Messi’ – and will cost just £20m

MANCHESTER UNITED look set to beat Arsenal in the race to nab young Argentina hot shot Thiago Almada.

The Velez Sarfield playmaker, dubbed the new Lionel Messi, has been attracting the attention of Europe’s football giants including United’s rivals Man City.

Manchester United are winning the race in the bid to sign Thiago Almada. The Velez Sarfield starlet has a £19million release clause

The teenager, who City have also been eyeing as a possible replacement for David Silva, is reported to be a top summer transfer target for the Arsenal.

And reports in Spain claim Atletico Madrid are also keen on landing the Argentinian who’s netted five times, and provided two assists, in 25 appearances this season.

Almada, 19, is believed to have a £19 million release clause in his contract which the Red Devils may have to stump up should they wish to beat their rivals to his signature.

SunSport says Almada came close to becoming a part of Pep Guardiola’s City last year but the club failed to agree on a price.

And sources in South America say the teenager was enthusiastic about the possibility of moving to the Etihad.

Almada is reported to see Carlos Tevez as one of his footballing idols according to claims from his camp.

The Velez Sarfield star is believed to have been inspired by Tevez’s spell at City where he scored 58 goals in four seasons.

Almada’s pace, vision, and versatile playing style could make him a decent addition to United with Ole Gunner Solskjaer looking to build his team around young talent.

The Red Devils are currently fifth in the league and two points behind top-four rivals Chelsea.

They’ll face Tottenham away on Friday 19 June in their first Premier League game following 100-day  coronavirus hiatus.
