Man Utd player ratings: Eric Bailly and Anthony Martial rare bright sparks as Marcus Rashford struggles for poor United

MANCHESTER UNITED scraped into the Europa League semi-finals with a 1-0 win over a competitive Copenhagen.

But they made it look far from easy on the night despite an almost full-strength side as they looked sloppy and uninspired in Germany.

Bruno Fernandes proved the match-winner for Manchester United despite a quiet overall showing

Here’s how SunSport rated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men…

Sergio Romero – 6

Solid enough between the sticks when dealing with balls into the box. Countless blocks from Wan-Bissaka and Bailly meant he didn’t actually have a save to make.

Remains to be seen whether United’s back-up keeper will retain his spot over No1 David de Gea as the club edge closer to silverware.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6

Struggled to get involved in any attacks during the first-half that was highlighted by a thunderous ball to the face that left him dazed.

Traded his head for his leg with a stunning second-half block as Bryan Oviedo looked destined to score.

Eric Bailly – 7

Allowed to continue his partnership with Harry Maguire that saw off LASK in the last round.

Protected Romero’s goal as he made some key blocks to save United from embarrassment.

Harry Maguire – 5

The United captain, playing his 60th match of the season, was pretty sound but seems to be feeling the effects of a long and taxing season.

Brandon Williams – 6

The academy graduate penned a new four-year contract at Old Trafford last week and proved his worth with a goal-saving first-half header.

But also showed he very much is a work in progress after he was caught out several times and embarrassed by some excellent skill from Rasmus Falk.

Eric Bailly could be considered unfortunate to be subbed following a strong performance at the heart of United’s defence

Fred – 6

Initially struggled to deputise for Nemanja Matic at the base of United’s midfield as he allowed several sloppy errors in the first-half.

Grew into the game and could be considered unfortunate to be hooked for the Serbian in the second-half.

Paul Pogba – 5

The Frenchman was unable to impose his usual influence on the game and was a passenger for much of United’s attacking impetus.

Bruno Fernandes – 6

The Portuguese maestro slowed down in the closing weeks of the Premier League season and clearly is in need of a break.

Still possesses flashes of his undoubted quality that saw one of his trademark long-range shots cannon back off the post.

Ice-cold composure to slot home United’s 21st penalty of the season in extra-time.

Greenwood – 5

Denied the chance to make history by the offside flag after he thought he had given United the lead with an assured finish across goal.

The academy graduate smacked another effort against the post after the break but soon faded.

Marcus Rashford endured a frustrating evening in Germany

Marcus Rashford – 4

A night to forget for the England star capped by a couple of failed speculative efforts.

A moment to sum up his evening came when he thought he had opened the scoring after tapping home only to see the offside flag raised.

Anthony Martial – 7

It would have been a 8/9 had the ratings covered from 80 minutes onwards, a lowly 4/5 for his performance before that.

Virtually anonymous playing in the central striking role for most of the game although the Frenchman’s service admittedly wasn’t the best.

He almost still proved the match-winner late on with one curling strike followed up by an incredible solo run minutes later.

Guilty of missing a sitter in extra-time but immediately recovered to win United a vital penalty.
