Man Utd star Paul Pogba has ‘never been close’ to Juventus transfer return, claims ex-sporting director Fabio Paritici

MANCHESTER UNITED star Paul Pogba has never been close to re-signing for Juventus, according to the club’s former sporting director.

The Frenchman is entering the final year of his Old Trafford deal but Fabio Paratici claimed a return to Turin has never seriously been discussed.

Juventus had long been linked with another swoop for the 2018 World Cup winner, particularly with Massimiliano Allegri back in the hot seat.

Allegri and Pogba won two successive Serie A titles together before the midfielder returned to United in an £89million move in 2016.

But new Tottenham managing director Paratici has revealed there was never a moment when the 28-year-old was close to joining Juve again.

He told Sky Sports: “Paul Pogba back to Juventus? I think it is very difficult.

“There has never been a moment in which we have been close to taking him back.”

The news will come as a massive boost to United – who were considering making Pogba the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

SunSport recently revealed that the Red Devils are willing to offer him a staggering £400,000 a week over the next five years.

Pogba’s new pay packet would eclipse the £375k a week which United team-mate David de Gea earns.

Yet should the French ace refuse to agree new terms then the club may be forced to cash in on him next summer rather than risk losing him for free.

It was previously reported that Paris Saint-Germain have made contact with Pogba’s representatives over a potential blockbuster move.

The Europa League finalist was also mentioned in a swap deal with Real Madrid that would see compatriot Raphael Varane head the other way.
