MANCHESTER UNITED’S Brazilian star has lifted the lid on his ‘Pastor Fred’ nickname.
The former Shakhtar schemer has grown in popularity at Old Trafford, having taken significant strides last season.
And while he might not quite be the Red Devils’ saviour, Fred’s nickname takes on a biblical feel.
The 27-year-old has become known as ‘Pastor Fred’ to his team-mates at Carrington.
And he has finally lifted the lid on why.

He told MUTV: “I think maybe it’s because I’m quite religious.
“I like to talk about my religion on social media.
“I’m someone who is very grateful to God for everything he’s done for me.
“I always show this gratitude on social media, everyone sees it and I’ve been given this nickname, Pastor Fred.
“I think it’s cool and long may it continue.”
Fred has become a useful squad member for boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the last 12 months.
He deputised skilfully last term when injuries were suffered by the likes of Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.
And he has managed to carve out a role for himself, playing the full 90 minutes last night as United humbled RB Leipzig 5-0 at Old Trafford.
The nine-cap international has now made 81 appearances for the Red Devils since joining in the summer of 2018.
