Man Utd star Scott McTominay facing spell out injured after unexpected groin surgery but reveals he’ll be back ‘soon’

MANCHESTER UNITED midfielder Scott McTominay has revealed he will be spending some time on the sidelines after undergoing groin surgery.

In a post to Instagram the Scotland international revealed it to be ‘minor surgery,’ but the news still comes as a surprise to Red Devils fans.

McTominay posted this picture of him in hospital on Thursday morning
He made a 14 minute cameo against Southampton for United and has been capped 26 times by Scotland

The 24-year-old started the opening game of the season against Leeds and came on as a 76th minute sub in Sunday’s draw against Southampton.

But he has now undergone successful surgery after playing through ‘significant pain’ in the opening two games of the Premier League season.

In an Instagram post on Thursday morning, McTominay said: “Just to let you all know I’ve had minor surgery on an issue which has needed managing for the last couple of months.

“I hate missing games so to be missing Wolves on the weekend & the international break is so disappointing but that’s part & parcel of the game.

“Wishing all the boys the best of luck & I will be back sooner than you think.”

And in an official club statement, Manchester United said: “Scott has undergone surgery for an ongoing groin injury that was causing significant pain when playing.

“Having tried all other treatment options in pre-season, surgery was deemed necessary to resolve the issue.

“We hope to have him back soon.”

McTominay will now miss this weekend’s Premier League clash against Wolves and Scotland’s World Cup Qualifiers against Denmark, Moldova and Andorra.

It’s unclear whether he will be back in time for United’s clash against Newcastle on September 11.

The 24-year-old has been a regular face in Manchester United’s first team in recent seasons, playing 135 times for the club after making his senior debut in 2017.

He was a mainstay in Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s side last season, making 49 appearances in all competitions.

His injury has fuelled rumours that Ole Gunnar Solskajer could dip into the transfer market for another central midfielder with no time frame given on McTominay’s return to action.

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of central midfielders this summer including the likes of Saul Niguez, Ruben Neves and Eduardo Camavinga.

But with just five days left until deadline day Red Devils bosses will have to work quickly to get any potential deal over the line.
