Man Utd star Timothy Fosu-Mensah totally in the dark over new contract with coronavirus stalling talks over deal

The Red Devils star is reported to be in the dark over whether or not United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prepared to trigger a one-year extension on his current deal.

Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah faces an anxious wait to find out whether his future remains at Old Trafford

The 22-year old Dutch ace’s contract is set to expire in June and he had hoped to prove to the United hierarchy he was worth a new deal before Covid-19 slammed the door shut on world football.

Sources close to the action at Old Trafford suggest the former Ajax youth star’s future remains up in the air after only returning to action with United’s under-23s in January after injury.

Fosu-Mensah suffered a horrific cruciate knee injury while on loan at Fulham and showed off his war wounds on his return to training at Carrington.

The Holland international spent last season on loan at Craven Cottage making 12 appearances for the West London side having starred 21 times on loan at Crystal Palace the season before.

Norwegian boss Solskjaer is thought to rate Fosu-Mensah highly and would prefer to keep him at the club with a view to utilising his technical ability in midfield but the pandemic has complicated matters.

Fosu-Mensah could now be left in limbo with the strong possibility there will be no football before his contract expires in under two months time.

However, that would allow the youngster to leave Old Trafford for free and he is not likely to be left short of potential suitors.

Despite failing to impress during his time at Fulham, the pacy defender has not looked out of place in his 12 Premier League appearances for United.

After fellow Dutchman Louis Van Gaal handed him his debut alongside England superstar Marcus Rashford back in 2016, big things were expected of Fosu-Mensah but he could now find himself a free agent when the summer transfer window opens.
