Man Utd ‘to make move’ for Real Madrid’s £34m winger Marco Asensio but Liverpool also in transfer hunt

MANCHESTER UNITED will make a move for Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, according to reports.

But they may face competition from Liverpool in the transfer chase.

Manchester United and Liverpool are both eyeing Marco Asensio

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Red Devils look set to launch a bid for the Spanish winger.

Asensio, 26, is into the final year of his Bernabeu contract and Real Madrid are keen to sell – because they refuse to bow to his increased wage demands for a new contract.

However, Los Blancos still want £34million for the three-time Champions League winner, who sacked his agent to secure a transfer.

The attacker has been involved in pre-season under Carlo Ancelotti in America, featuring in all three friendlies.

And he got on the scoresheet last night as Real beat Juventus 2-0.

Only Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr scored more than Asensio’s 12 goals last season as they won LaLiga and the Champions League.

But United are keen to pounce on his contract stand-off by offering him a chance to perform in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag has brought in Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia this summer while the Frenkie de Jong saga rumbles on.

But the Dutch manager is keen to bring in an extra forward.

Edinson Cavani was released, Cristiano Ronaldo wants out and Mason Greenwood remains suspended.

But they may be pipped by Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp can offer Asensio Champions League football this season while AS report the Reds have already tabled a contract offer worth just shy of £100,000 per week.

But the ex-Mallorca star would have to dislodge Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez or Luis Diaz to get a starting spot at Anfield – and could be resigned to an impact role off the bench like he has had in Madrid.

Arsenal and Newcastle were both linked with Asensio earlier in the summer transfer window.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta still wants another attacker to come in while Newcastle are in discussions over James Maddison, Harvey Barnes and Timo Werner.
