Man Utd to trigger Pogba contract extension unless they receive transfer bid in excess of £83m

MANCHESTER UNITED are prepared to trigger an automatic extension option in Paul Pogba’s contract if the midfielder does not leave this summer.

Real Madrid and Juventus are circling with intent for the Frenchman but will reportedly have to fork out at least £83million to cut a deal.

United boss Solskjaer may be about to extend Pogba’s stay

With Pogba’s contract expiring in June 2021, there is talk of United losing their record signing for free at the end of next season as an agreement over a new deal appears unlikely.

However they do possess an automatic 12-month renewal on the player’s existing terms that Marca believe will be taken up if necessary.

The upcoming market is expected to be incredibly muted compared to recent years amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Red Devils may be inclined to sell Pogba to raise funds for the purchases of Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish, who are likely to still be valued at a combined £150million once the transfer window opens.

Furthermore, Ed Woodward recently warned off fans from expecting major arrivals before the next campaign.

United are not expected to let up on their valuation of Pogba, Le10Sport naming a price of at least £83m while Real and Juve hope to start the bidding at £52m.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may feel he can cut ties with the player given Bruno Fernandes’ impact on the Old Trafford midfield.

This season has seen Pogba play fewer games than the January arrival due to a troublesome ankle injury that struck in the early weeks of the season.

It has previously been reported that he would be “angry” if United push ahead with the automatic renewal as a potential mutually agreed extension is preferred.

Inter Milan have also been linked with a bid for Pogba despite the financial uncertainty surrounding Serie A.

Spanish media remain confident that Real Madrid is the 27-year-old’s ideal destination following Zinedine Zidane’s very public courting of his compatriot.
