Man Utd told NOT to seal Kieran Trippier transfer by legendary defender Rio Ferdinand

MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand has told his former club NOT to sign England right-back Kieran Trippier.

Ferdinand, 42, believes that the LaLiga winner doesn’t fit the profile of right-back that Man Utd should be looking to sign this summer.

Rio Ferdinand feels Trippier isn’t the man for Man Utd
Kieran Trippier had a successful season in Spain, helping Atletico Madrid win LaLiga

But admits that he sees the quality the 30-year-old has and what he brings to the table.

Speaking to Metro, he said: “I don’t think they’d buy someone to come in and play [every week], I think whoever’s coming in there is going to be playing backup.

“They spent £50m on Wan-Bissaka, not to be a backup or No2.

“He [Trippier] wouldn’t be my choice if I’m honest, but I see the qualities he has.

“But Trippier definitely wouldn’t be my choice in terms of the profile of player that I’d be bringing in to play as a No2 right-back.”

Ferdinand made 455 appearances for the Red Devils, winning 16 major honours whilst at the club.

The 42-year-old has taken a step back from football since retiring in 2015, and it doesn’t look like he’ll be stepping into the coaching or managerial arena anytime soon.

Ferdinand has become a pundit and he is a regular feature for BT Sport.

Maybe some standout performances will change Ferdinand’s mind.

According to Spanish outlet  Mundo Deportivo, United have already seen an opening offer of £10million rejected by Atletico Madrid.

And the LaLiga champions are determined to only let Trippier leave if his £34m release clause is met.
