Man Utd ‘want Sevilla defender Jules Kounde transfer as well as Raphael Varane’ in bid to bolster back line

MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly interested in bringing Sevilla defender Jules Kounde to Old Trafford this summer.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane and continue to negotiate for the Frenchman.

Varane is hoping to seal his move to Manchester United in the coming weeks

But The Mail believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s outfit are keen to sign both Kounde and Varane in a bid to bolster the middle of their defence.

The 22-year-old Sevilla star can play at both right-back and centre-half, the sort of versatility which is enticing Man Utd.

He is under contract until 2024 at the Spanish side, but the club are thought to be expecting offers for him in the summer window.

As well as an impressive domestic campaign, Kounde was also selected by Didier Deschamps in France‘s 26-man squad for Euro 2020.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Real Madrid have all been linked with a move for Kounde, but it is Man Utd who appear to be leading the way.

Meanwhile, the long drawn out transfer saga surrounding Varane continues to rumble on.

With just one year left on his deal in Spain, Real are keen to cash in on the 28-year-old who is seeking a fresh challenge having been at the club since 2011.

And it is understood that the 2018 World Cup winner is keen to link up with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s side to partner Harry Maguire.

Boss Solskjaer laughed off talk of Varane’s imminent arrival at Carrington after a 2-1 friendly win against Derby eight days ago.

Asked for his view on the potential deal, Solskjaer could not conceal a smile.

Laughing, he said: “Varane? I only speak about players when we sign them.”

Varane has been at Real for a decade since joining them from Ligue 1 side Lens.

He has won three LaLiga titles and four Champions Leagues, while also winning the World Cup with France in 2018.
