Man Utd will NOT meet Harry Kane’s transfer asking price… as Solskjaer thinks Marcus Rashford is just as good

MANCHESTER UNITED are not going to be spending big bucks on Harry Kane because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes he already has a striker just as good.

It wasn’t long after Solskjaer took charge that he pulled Marcus Rashford to one side and told him the extent of the belief he had in the young striker’s ability.

Man Utd are not going to be spending big bucks on Harry Kane because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes he already has a striker just as good

It was in that conversation that he told him he could be as good as Tottenham hitman Kane.

With Rashford just 22 and Kane turning 27 in three months, Solskjaer knows he will also get plenty more years out of how own man by sticking with him as his main striker.

Rashford was having his best scoring season with 19 before a back injury cut short his campaign in January.

But he will be fit again for the final nine games when football returns from coronavirus lockdown.

In the meantime Solskjaer had converted Anthony Martial from a wide player to a No 9 with good results as the Frenchman scored four in his last six games to make it 16 for him.

That’s another reason why they don’t see a need to spend big on Kane.

Solskjaer also sees a great future for Mason Greenwood and does not want to block the teenager’s progression.

The 18-year-old broke through this season with 12 goals and was publicly acclaimed by Solskjaer as the best finisher in the club.

A rumoured £200million price tag is another big reason for United to avoid a move for someone who has been prone to injuries over the last two years.

Solskjaer is still looking to bolster his striking department with one more signing.

But the club has moved away from the Galactico types and instead have a policy of building a team around young improving players who will enjoy their best days at the club.

It was why Solskjaer tried to get 19-year-old Erling Haaland in January only to lose out to Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland moved from RB Salzburg for just £18million and now has a £63million buy-out clause but Solskjaer has still not given up on signing him one day.

Kane appeared to open the door to a move last month when he said he would not stay at Spurs just for the sake of it if he could not see progression.

Kane said: “I love Spurs, I’ll always love Spurs, but it’s one of those things I’ve always said that if I don’t feel we’re progressing as a team or going in the right direction then I’m not someone to just stay there just for the sake of it.”

His camp were expecting interest from United but there has been none forthcoming.

United are also averse to trying to deal with Daniel Levy renowned for driving a long laborious bargain when it comes to transfers.

United are instead prioritising a move for 20-year-old England superkid Jadon Sancho.

As revealed in Sunsport yesterday, United have finalised personal terms with the Borussia Dortmund winger’s camp.

They are still to finalise a fee with the Bundesliga club which could be a British transfer record £100million.

Kane has been linked with a mega-money switch to Old Trafford
