Manchester United Singing Section Boycotts Matches Amid Ongoing Dispute with Club

Sitting It Out

The Red Army [TRA], responsible for managing the singing section in the Stretford End at Old Trafford, is refusing to participate in two upcoming Manchester United matches.

The group will sit out the games against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup and Galatasaray, claiming that the club has classified them as a 'risk group'.

Classification Controversy

In talks with Manchester United, TRA members were informed that being labeled as a 'risk group' by the club could attract the attention of authorities. However, the club denies categorizing TRA in such a way and states that the risk group classification was a suggestion from local authorities.

Club Statement

A club statement reads: "Our Chief Operating Officer met with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and received confirmation that The Red Army were not classified as a 'risk group of supporters'. We are disappointed that The Red Army are not running the section for these cup games as these fixtures represent two very important matches in key competitions and the atmosphere section plays such a vital role in supporting the team in the big moments."

The Purpose of TRA

The TRA was formed in 2017 with the primary goal of improving the stale atmosphere at Old Trafford. By encouraging younger fans to attend matches and facilitating connections with other supporters, the group has successfully revitalized the singing section.

Upcoming Opponents

While the TRA plans to be present for the Premier League visit of Crystal Palace, they will not be part of the singing section for the cup match against the same opponent.

As the dispute continues, it remains to be seen how the situation will be resolved and if the TRA will fully resume its operations at Old Trafford.
