Marcelo Bielsa taking £34k-a-week wage cut at Leeds along with top stars to help club amid coronavirus pandemic

MARCELO BIELSA is taking a £34,000 a week temporary cut in wages to help ensure Leeds United can still be marching on together.

Patrick Bamford and Kiko Casilla will also take that huge hit after the players, staff and management agreed to defer part of their salaries until the season kicks off again.

Marcelo Bielsa has agreed a wage cut as the coronavirus pandemic rages on

Elland Road owner Andrea Radrizzani this week revealed that the lockdown on his Championship leaders could spell “disaster” for the club.

The Whites will lose £2.5million by May because their last five home games won’t be played.

The club already runs on a tight budget and should Bielsa gain promotion Paris Saint-Germain are understood to be ready to add financial help by making an investment to help fund life in the top flight.

First Leeds have to still be up and running to complete the last nine games and director of football Victo Orta says everyone is pulling together like family.

‘EVERYONE PULLING TOGETHER’

He said :“My players have demonstrated an incredible sense of unity and togetherness and I am proud of their actions.

“We face uncertain times and therefore it is important that we all work together to find a way that the club can push through this period and end the season in the way we all hope we can

“Leeds United is a family, this is the culture that has been created by everyone at the club, from the players and the board to the staff and the supporters in the stands.

“To Marcelo and his staff and all of the players, we thank them for putting our wider team first and taking care of family.”

Boss Bielsa, striker Bamford and goalkeeper Casilla are the highest earners on £40,000 a week each.

Wages have now been temporarily capped at £6,000 a week.

Leeds United said in a statement that “the players, coaching staff and senior management team have volunteered to take a wage deferral for the foreseeable future.

“To ensure that all non-football staff at Elland Road and Thorp Arch can be paid and the integrity of the business can be maintained.”
